REFLECTIONS OF A RESTAURANT
MANAGER
What makes
Food Management so worthwhile?
What are its
rewards?
It takes special
people to thrive in the food business. Restaurant Managers must have a heart
of service and a desire to satisfy.
The reward is
not always necessarily money. Money is something that is necessary for
us to survive in today's world. But, it does not satisfy our deepest
needs.
The reward for a
Restaurant Manager is a two sided coin. One side is to achieve top Customer
Service and produce top quality products. This is truly a major goal.,
When you hear
the customer say, "This is the best food I have ever eaten" or
Your employees are extremely polite" or "Your operation is better
than so & so", THIS IS THE REWARD.
Achieving
constant repeat customers, who you get you know and who eventually become
your friends, is also very self satisfying.
It has been said
that once you experience the food business, it is in your blood for good. I
believe that this is one of the truest statements ever said.
On the other
side of the coin is the organization and the development of people. The true
reward is to be able to work with and lead people towards a common goal and
then seeing them achieve that goal and accomplish their inner needs.
At the end of
the day, when all things are said and done, if I have in some way helped
better the life of an individual or individuals, that is the sweetest of
reward.
Sincerely,
J. A. Smith, IV |
