State Wholesale Food was founded in 1949 by J. A. Smith, Jr. for the purpose of consistently maintaining high quality food items for use in our facilities. This centralized distribution center, located in Macon, Georgia, provides the purchasing of foods and supplies to all our contract feeding accounts and public cafeterias. The standards and specifications set by Smith & Sons Foods, Inc., allow for the use of only the highest quality grades of fruits and vegetables. Our meats are processed in our own USDA inspected meat processing plant. Our beef and veal are choice quality, lamb and pork are packer's finest grades, and fowl is "Grade A". With over forty years of experience, it is our mission to insure the highest quality products at the best possible cost. These products are distributed weekly, using our tractor trailer trucks, to all of our units throughout the Southeast. This system has proven to be very effective for the units, allowing them to be prepared for the delivery, thus avoiding meal time interruptions. The system also frees up the manager from dealing with large numbers of salespeople through the week, allowing them more time to manage your facility. We feel this is the only way to consistently provide you, our client, with the high quality you expect. As a company philosophy, it is recommended that each unit maintain an inventory of 7-9 days on hand. This will insure that products will be in-house in the event of inclement weather or disaster. State Wholesale maintains a working inventory of 1,650 product line items, which equal $1.5 to $1.9 million dollars worth of products. We meet the requested fill ratio of 99.8% of the products which are requested by our units. State Wholesale employs a food technologist, 25 other management and hourly personnel, and has a USDA inspector on premises. Our test kitchen develops recipes, and tests new products from vendors to insure our standard of quality. The State Wholesale facility is an estimated 45,000 square feet, with the availability to triple in size as we continue to grow.
